A Russian physiologist named Ivan Pavlov first discovered the principles of classical conditioning during his experiments on the digestive systems of dogs. Pavlov noticed that the dogs in his experiments had begun to salivate whenever they saw the white coats of his lab assistants prior to being fed. So how exactly does classical conditioning explain learning? According to the principles of classical condoning, learning takes place when an association is formed between a previously neutral stimulus and a naturally occurring stimulus. In Pavlov’s experiments, for example, he paired the natural stimulus of food with the sound of a bell. The dogs would naturally salivate in response to food, but after multiple associations, the dogs would salivate to the sound of the bell alone. What Is Classical Conditioning? Learning Through Operant Conditioning Operant conditioning was first described by the behavioral psychologist B.F. Skinner. It is sometimes also referred to as Skinnerian conditioning and instrumental conditioning. Skinner believed that classical conditioning simply could not account for all types of learning and was instead more interested in learning how the consequences of actions influence behaviors. Like classical conditioning, operant conditioning relies on forming associations. In operant conditioning, however, associations are made between a behavior and the consequences of that behavior. When a behavior leads to a desirable consequence, it becomes more likely that the behavior will be repeated again in the future. If the actions lead to a negative outcome, however, then the behavior then becomes less likely to occur. What Is Operant Conditioning? Learning Through Observation Albert Bandura believed that associations and direct reinforcements simply could not account for all learning. Learning would be exceedingly laborious, not to mention hazardous if people had to rely solely on the effects of their own actions to inform them what to do, he famously wrote in his 1977 book Social Learning Theory. Instead, he proposed that much of learning takes place through observation. Children observe the actions of those around them, particularly caregivers and siblings, and then imitate these behaviors. In his well-known Bobo doll experiment, Bandura revealed just how easily children could be led to imitate even negative actions. Children who watched a video of an adult beating up a large inflatable doll were then much more likely to copy those same actions when given a chance. Perhaps most importantly, Bandura noted that learning something does not necessarily result in a change in behavior. Children frequently learning new things through observation, but might not engage in such behaviors themselves until there is actually a need or motivation to utilize the information. It’s more than tears from hitting your pinky toe on the corner of your bed, more than the expression of an Aggie who just watched their football team lose to Auburn University in the last 4 mins of the football game. Weeping is an ancient Jewish expression of mourning and grief. So, Mary and Martha are weeping, and others present, are also weeping. Then hear that â€Å"Jesus began to weep.† Why is Jesus weeping? Mary, repeating what Martha had already said, tells Jesus, â€Å"Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.† Now that is some kind of faith. Mary and Martha believe in Jesus so much that they blame him for the death of their, brother Lazarus. Okay, so why does Jesus weep? Perhaps he weeps in unity with others who are grieving, as an act of oneness and solidarity with those who grieve. This weeping one-ness, shows us a God who feels the pain and suffering of humanity. As Luke Powery put it, this is a communal holy sorrow. Jesus wept to demonstrate that you and I are not alone in the midst of hurt and tragedy and brokenness.† It reveal that God is fully present with us even in the midst of life’s most painful situations, even when we feel like we are sitting in the pit of Hell. God is with us! Jesus is there weeping. As we live in the aftermath of hurricanes like Micheal, you may know some folks in South Carolina, Some who were affected in someway and endured the loss of their homes, flooding, loss of mementos, fire, cars flooded and underwater. We’ve witnessed on the news, entire towns being destroyed by the impact of water. Or maybe you have encountered other difficulties in your life, the tragic death of a loved one, and you can relate to Mary’s words: â€Å"Lord if you had been here, my brother, sister, mother, father, son, daughter, uncle, cousin, friend, would have not died.† BUT GOD IS THERE, WEEPING RIGHT ALONG WITH YOU AND EVERYONE ELSE! Friends, when we suffer, and when we weep, God does not turn a death ear to us, rather God weeps right there with us! And God calls us to bear one another’s burdens and to weep in unity and solidarity, to be a communion of saints, to be a crowd of witnesses through a spiritual weeping. How beautiful is this passage?! That reveals to us that God joins in our human suffering and opens God’s self up to the perils of this worldJesus wept. BUT wait a minute, the text seems to suggest that Jesus wept for another reason.. verse 36: â€Å"Jesus began to weep. So the Jews said, ‘See how he loved him!’† Jesus weeps as a sign of His love for Lazarus. Not just to be in solidarity with Mary and the others, but because he loved Lazarus. In his 1987 book called Lament for a Son, about the tragic death of his 25 year old son, Eric, philosophical theologian, Nicholas Wolterstorff, writes, â€Å"If [one] was worth loving, [one] is worth grieving over. It’s okay to shed tears, it’s okay to weep, it is not a sign of weakness; rather it exemplifies a holy strength, one that this culture may not fully understand. BUT weeping is a reflection of love. What a Joy it is to Know Our Jesus Wept! A weeping love is one that flows for those gone from this earth, a mother, father, daughter, son, uncle, aunt, husband, wife, cousin, close friend, colleague, mentor. All saints. After studying this passage Now I better understand why at the first funeral I performed, the wife of a loving husband literally pulled his body out of the casket, while weeping, or even why people try to jump in the casket. This wife was weeping because she loved him with a deep love! When God weeps, its because God loves. Jesus was weeping to reveal his love in the face of suffering, even as he headed toward the cross. Jesus began to weep as an act of solidarity with Mary and Martha and others Jesus wept because of His love for Lazarus and the world. But friends this weeping was in the face of death. Yes, Jesus Who was on His wayto give himself up for the sins of the entire world, stopped by a little village to the home of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus to put death in its place. Yes, Jesus is weeping but it is not a weeping of defeat, it is a weeping that stirs up anger and resistance. It is a weeping that inspires His purpose and zeal. It is a weeping that moves Him at the very core of His being. His beloved Lazarus is dead, has been for 4 days, according to Martha and he is already stinking. Death stinks! Somebody say, Death stinks! Yes, death stinks, and Jesus is not happy about it! Yes, Jesus weeps, because he recognizes his friend Lazarus is in death’s grip. Yes, He weeps because he recognizes the weight and bondage of death. Yes, He weeps, but this weeping is in the face of the aching pain of the absence of life. Yes, He weeps over death because He knows there is life and liberty on the other side of death. Yes, He weeps, because death breaks His heart. Yes, he weeps, but he does not just sit down in defeat, he does not curl up in a corner and cry, he heads to the tomb, and demands that the stone be rolled away! (Perhaps foreshadowing Jesus’ resurrection) My my! Yes He weeps, BUT Jesus Is the Resurrection AND The Life! So He declares, Lazarus, come out! Verse 44: 44 The dead man came out, his hands and feet bound with strips of cloth, and his face wrapped in a cloth. Jesus said to them, â€Å"Unbind him, and let him go.† Lazarus who was dead is now alive! This miracle, is not just about Jesus ability to raise from the dead, it’s about NEW LIFE and freedom! In this act, God reveals through Jesus that God is All Powerful and is able and willing to defeat death. This miracle reveals that death does not have the final say! It reveals that God is willing and able to give us new life, and just like Lazarus was released and unbound from those garments of cloth, God offers us freedom. Can you hear Jesus declaring in your life â€Å"Unbind her and let her go!† Will you receive new life and freedom today? Freedom and new life from alcohol and drug addiction, new life and freedom from depression, and from suicidal thought, new life and freedom from prejudices, and bigotry, new life and freedom from illness and disease, new life and freedom from feelings of inadequacy, new life and freedom from feeling unloved. Today, be free! Today, as Jesus weeps, know He weeps because He loves you, with a love that is unconditional so much so that He gave Himself for you. But in His resurrection, death’s grip was released for a new life of freedom and to think it all began with weeping. Friends, As Psalm 30:5b declares: Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning light! So as we celebrate All Saints Sunday, we celebrate those who have died in the faith, may we celebrate knowing death does not have the victory! As the Apostle Paul declares: I Corinthians 15:55-57 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Thanks be to God! Therefore, the problem with Four Seasons is a leadership focus on traditional marketing objectives which are likely not as effective for todays value-focused nonuser in building loyalty. II. Background The achievement of brand loyalty, in the hospitality industry, especially noticeable in the hotel industry, is what drives the highest marketing return on investment (Rica, 2009). Brand loyalty can best be defined as the achievement of such a powerful consumer sentiment about the products brand or service elements that they begin to demand this particular brand over all other competitors in their similar marketplace. Brand loyalty, by this definition, is not likely to be achieved without significant investment into marketing promotion with concentrated advertising. Loyalty marketing is a strategy, not a tactic (Humbly, Hunt and Phillips, 2004, p. 1 2). Today, it appears competition are using loyalty schemes with various points accumulation for incentive-based marketing (Thornton, 2006). According to Shogun (2005), current loyalty programs appear to be unrelated to the creation of brand loyalty. Long gone are the days of the one-size-fits all loyalty program (Vantage, 2008, p. 4). This should give opportunity for todays hotel industries to actively reexamine existing loyalty programs to consider whether it is bringing positive ROI to their marketing investment into these programs. It is important for the hospitality industry to understand that the best return on promotional investment is to achieve this brand loyalty, therefore it becomes paramount to recognize how best to achieve this loyalty through contemporary marketing which fits the consumers lifestyle and needs profiles. There seems to be a fundamental shift in what drives brand loyalty in todays hospitality industry, where consumers are not as driven by visual images and logo presentation but are requesting aspects of service quality and reward in order to offer their loyalty to any particular brand. In some instances, a longer-lived brand could have been a part of negative publicity or a scandalous scenario during its life cycle which damaged its brand reputation in its target client audience. Research Design Qualitative analysis is the most logical data source for uncovering a trend in consumer values related to brand loyalty in the hospitality industry today. This type of analysis is interpretative in which personal knowledge in a variety of domains of duty is used as a Justification for analysis of various secondary source materials to uncover noticeable trends. Thus, this study consulted with recently published marketing- and hospitality-oriented Journals and other secondary source materials as the logical starting point for consumer trend analysis. Because the information required for analysis is needed from both the consumer and the industry standpoint, the development of a primary research study would be impractical due to time and budget restrictions. Primary research, in the form of consumer research studies, could have provided this study with valuable, real-time nonuser sentiment. However, secondary source analysis provided this study with valuable, rather surprising data which did not Justify the viewpoints of marketing professionals identified when this study was first proposed. Instead, the achievement of brand loyalty is driven by factors more closely related to lifestyle and through service-oriented efforts on behalf of the hospitality organization. This trend was more noticeable when looking at the situation from the industry perspective rather than the consumer perspective and by assessing the nature by which competitors in these resource analysis provided significant value to the fulfillment of the study objectives without the biases sometimes included in consumer sentiment surveys or questionnaires. Journals were selected from both domestic sources and international sources, as many hotels and restaurants operate in the global environment. Therefore, in order to gain the perspective of foreign consumers as well, the online environment was chosen as a logical medium for this study research methodology to locate Journals and other marketing publications for these consumers. However, much to the industry dismay, only one-third of these same consumers actually belonged to a travel loyalty or rewards program (Wing). This shows a very strong disconnect between marketing effectiveness, the return on investment, as consumers have identified their importance but are not subscribing to these benefit programs. The Four Seasons, if choosing to adopt a new loyalty programmer, must be concerned with low subscriber ratios and work to promote the new programmer to build consumer interest. Though many travelers identify the importance of these loyalty- based concepts, low subscriber ratios could enhance the problem of implementing such a programmer at Four Seasons. This would have to be an immediate focus It seems, also, that women are the most logical target market when considering who s most able and willing to provide tourism dollars in this industry. Cavalier (2008) identifies that women make up 83 percent of all consumer purchases, thus to capture the woman buyer you have to understand the woman psyche and it has been discovered that trust is central to female loyalty (Cavalier, p. 1 7). Since women are likely the contributing force behind the decision to travel and frequent the hospitality industry, marketers should also focus on women when trying to create vacation promotions or lifestyle connections. Fortunately for the Four Seasons, the brand has built a positive reputation in its archetypal and there is a considerable amount of trust in the brand in relation to service provision and accommodations excellence. If implementing a new loyalty programmer to build higher sales volumes and increase loyalty, the company should direct the majority of its marketing toward the female customer as they will make most of the traveling decisions, even in the more upscale market audience. 4. Four Seasons may wish to reconsider this aspect when building loyalty as a meaner to extend and publicly promote the diverse family of brands under the Four Seasons direction. Linking a positive brand name with a new brand can give Four Seasons new flexibility and design a variety of loyalty programmer to a new client demographic. There is clearly a consumer shift moving toward the quality and consistently of service delivery when determining which hospitality brand deserves more loyalty than other competing hospitality brand. Since they consider the loyalty program and rewards associated with them to be of high priority when determining travel, it would make good business sense for the Four Seasons to implement them to best fit consumer demands and lifestyle-related expectations. Such efforts would require Taft members to be developed as consistent, motivated and professional service providers to satisfy consumer demands and deliver the consistent quality of service that guests come to expect. Consumers are watching their economic portfolios, something which was evident when analyzing their dissatisfaction with being nickel and dimmed to death as described by Blitz (2008). The current economy across the globe is forcing many individuals, at all levels of financial backgrounds, to reexamine their spending policies. A points-based loyalty programmer at the Four Seasons would be good business sense based in the information provided.

I have always found that books can tell much better stories than what you see on screen, this was no different.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The movie easily cut out very important parts of the story. The beginning of the book is so important because you really get the feel for the weird mother-daughter relationship between Astrid and her Mother. In the movie you only get to see a small portion of how Astrid’s Mother treats her. Also, in the movie they do not tell the whole story about Astrid’s Mother and the man that she murdered. I could go on and on listing the many things that we left out that are so important to the story.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The actors in the movie were incredibly in sync with the characters portray ed in the book. They made the perfect matches of the innocent Astrid who has to grow up so quickly. Her Mother who is so beautiful, strong willed, and has such a whimsical, unreal sense to her. When I think of the characters in the book I can definitely picture the actors in the movie.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The hardships that Astrid came upon were in to way reflected as they should have been in the movie. There are so many events and people that influenced Astrid to do the things and make the decisions that she did and they were completely left out of the movie. Edmunds Corrugated Parts & Services are a company based in Virginia, U.S. owned by Larry Edmunds; who provided precision machine parts and service for the domestic corrugated box industry. About two years ago, Larry’s grandfather loaned him the money to start the business. It is Larry’s first factory; in a barn on what had been the family’s Shenandoah Valley farm. He operates from a 50,000 square-foot factory located near I-81 just a few miles from that old barn (Daft, R., 2010). However there are some issues that Edmunds has faced with the quarterly earnings. They simply were not as they had been in the past. Firstly, the company was capable of employing about one hundred employees who were mostly neighbors. They were as hard-working and loyal employees. However, many of employees were going to retire. The company was suffering from the issue of replacing the current employees. The other issue the company was holding market share at 75 percent but the market share lately has reduced significantly. It was due to the number of the companies that had appeared manufacturing the same product. This had made it possible for the company to diversify their production with products such as the more flexible plastic films and reusable plastic containers. The last issue faced by Edmunds is losing industries mainly in U.S. due to the consolidation that was done by the paper industry. Some industries that survived opening other branches oversea as joint ventures. This issue had bought Edmunds to the crossroads of what he should do to bring the company revenues back to where they used to be. 2. Create and describe a strategy for addressing the situation at hand. From the issues the company had faced; the competition was changing, external rules and regulations were changing, and suppliers were changing as well. The strategy that worked well in the past is no longer producing the results company would like. Therefore; the company demanded a strategy would make sure it will recover; by way of strategic management, it is efficient to ensure that the company is capable of returning back to the way of its business. The strategic management is the comprehensive collection of ongoing activities and processes that organizations use to systematically coordinate and align resources and actions with mission, vision and strategy throughout an organization (â€Å"Management Study Guide,† 2008). The requirements for an ongoing process in strategic management are environmental scanning, strategy formulation, strategy implementation and strategy evaluation. The second strategy formulation is the process of designing and selecting the most suitable course of action for the achievement of organization goals and objectives and thereby achieving the organization vision (Bushman, M., 2007). This strategy should ensure the company regains it competitive edge. The third strategy implementation implies making the strategy work as intended or putting the organization’s chosen strategy into action including developing steps, methods and procedures to execute the strategy (Bhasin, H., 2010). The company management should ensure that the implementation of the strategy is cost effective, not disruptive and acceptable by all stakeholders. The final process of strategic management is strategy evaluation. These activities are evaluating internal and external factors that are the root of current strategies, measuring performance, and corrective actions. These processes will give Edmunds some great opportunities; for an example, making quality goods can be used to ensure that they increase their market share and customers will be loyal to their service. 3. Assess which element in the strategy you just described would be the hardest to implement and explain why. The part that would be the most difficult state in strategic management is the strategy implementation. This is because it involves change. It will require the management to fit the resources, the competencies and the opportunities that the company has in the market. The support of employees and managers are needed in order to successfully implement a strategy. When people do not proactively make the changes that are needed to adapt to the strategy, this will be one of the large difficulties. Moreover, if there is no follow-up to the strategy implementation, this will be one of the largest difficulties. The strategy implementation is hard and risky if it does not well carry on. All the resources that have been put in place can be wasted if any hitch happens in the process. It may lead to complete closure of the company as well if they will waste their time. 4. Describe what strategies Edmunds could use in the future to reduce potential crises before they happen. There are different methods that Edmunds could use in the future to ensure that the company does not entangle in the potential crises. The first strategy that the company would use is development of research department that will be looking at innovation for the company to guarantee that it is at a competitive edge at all the time. The second strategy is the training to the employees. This will ensure that the employees have the upcoming technology skills and the productively level will increase as well. The last strategy is the employee recruitment. The company has to make sure the employees are ready and competitive; which means the employees are capable of rising upon all challenges. B-MOVIES: FROM RAGS TO RICHES Hollywood today spends more money on movies than ever before, with an average budget of $140 million per movie. ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’; the most expensive movie ever made; cost approximately $378.5 million and that was five years ago. This isn’t surprising since history is witness to a rising trend in money spent on movies, however, even after adjusting for inflation, their impact on the industry isn’t as large as their budgets. Over the years, lower cost productions like B-Movies have played a major role in carrying the industry forward by keeping it stable, moving and profitable in times of trouble. B-Movies came to be the need of the hour after The Great Depression and World War II.
